Basic Workshop

COVID-19 UPDATE

It is with deepest regret that we inform you that the BASSC Executive Committee has elected not to run the British National Stage Combat Workshop this year.

As you are undoubtedly aware, the top priority of the BASSC in teaching the craft of stage combat has always been the safety of performers.  After a long review of the UK Health Guidance regarding Covid-19, the EC did not believe it that would be possible to run the workshop in a way that would effectively guarantee the safety of workshop participants at the BNSCW. Therefore, we could not run the workshop.

Those who had booked places on the BNSCW 2020 have been contacted directly by email regarding refunds.

We do hope to run the BNSCW in 2021 for the same two-week period at the same venue with the same workshops and weapons.  We will give details on the website and on our social media pages: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter when this is confirmed.  We look forward to welcoming you all then.

In the meantime, be safe, stay healthy, and keep fighting the good fight.

Janet Lawson

President, BASSC

The Basic course provides a thorough foundation in stage combat skills with equal emphasis on safety, technique, style and performance, and is equivalent to the training you would receive at an accredited drama school. No prior experience is necessary. Both weapons are taught over the course of the two weeks. At the end of the course, you have the opportunity to take the BASSC Fight Performance Test.

Intermediate/Advanced Stage Combat Workshop

In addition to training in two new weapon styles, the Int/Adv workshop includes a series of related acting classes to enhance the performance of stage fighting. Both weapons are taught over the course of the two weeks. At the end of the course, you have the opportunity to take the BASSC Fight Performance Test. Students must have current Basic certification in stage combat from a recognised stage combat organisation. (BASSC, BADC, SAFD, SAFDi, FDC, East15, etc).

Weapons: Rapier & Dagger, Unarmed Combat, Others TBD.

For students that need to renew their Stage Combat certificate. To do a renewal workshop, students must present a certificate that is either current or that has expired within the previous two years.  As renewals have not been possible in 2020 we have extended the renewal date for certificates that expired in 2018 to 2021.

Ages 18 and over.

You can renew your basic certification of Rapier & Dagger and Unarmed Combat over two days or renew either weapon in one.  Other weapon renewals may be run.  Renewal workshops need a minimum number to run and are based on demand.  We will ask you to register your interest in renewing when we open bookings for the BNSCW 2021.
