Weekend Stage Combat Workshops

We hold two regular annual weekend workshops, the “Empire” in March and the “Lion” in November.

The “Empire” and the “Lion” are both two-day intensive workshops designed to give participants the opportunity to explore the stage combat ‘road less travelled’. As most stage combat students are trained in the use of European swords, we thought it would be more fun at a short workshop to invite the staff to cover more esoteric subjects, as well as review the more traditional weapons. Since they began, the “Empire” and “Lion” have offered such diverse classes as:

Hollywood Styles, Shaolin Staff, Tomahawk and Knife, Shaolin Kicks, Double Stick, “Bastard” Sword, Acting the Fight, French Cane, Great Sword vs Single-handed Broadsword & Dagger, Tricks with Sticks, Baronial Hall, The Bound Duel and Conquering Neutrality.

Both workshops feature an international cast of teachers and students. Over the last 14 years, we have welcomed students and teachers from Finland, USA, France, Wales, Scotland, Eire, Sweden, Norway and England.

We are back at Caxton House for the first weekend workshop of the year. This is a chance for all of us to rediscover just how much fun stage combat really is! Often described as “the stage combat road less travelled”, this workshop is about exploring ideas and concepts in a totally non-syllabus environment.

Previous workshops have welcomed students and teachers from Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and even the USA making this a truly international workshop. Further information on classes and staff for this year’s workshop will be announced shortly – watch this space!
